Artificial intelligence is one of the oldest and most exciting subfields of computer science covering areas such as intelligent robotics intelligent planning and scheduling model-based inference error diagnosis natural language processing machine translation knowledge representation and inference knowledge-based systems knowledge engineering intelligent agents machine learning neural networks genetic algorithms and knowledge management. The papers in this volume are refereed proceedings from the Second International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations held in Beijing China in 2005.A promising sign of the growing importance of artificial intelligence techniques in practical applications is that the conference received more than 150 submissions. Each paper was judged by at least two members of the programme committee and 93 tests were selected for the conference and are presented in this volume.
